The Stockyard sits on the former location of Brighton Cattle Market. Since 1972, they have been serving up steaks in an unpretentious setting. They are known for having Al Capone’s original bar, but not so much for their clam chowder. Even so, when the chowder quest encounters a chowder, it must be tried.

Clams
There weren’t many clams in this chowder, but it did have good clam flavor.
Cream and Consistency
The Stockyard’s chowder is nice and creamy. It has a good consistency, not too thick but certainly not thin.
Potatoes
The potatoes are good but like the clams there just aren’t very many of them.
Garnish
Nothing exciting here, just the basic Westminster Oyster Crackers.
Everything Else
This is a pretty simple chowder, but there is a slight flavor of flour which add thickness but detracts from the overall quality.
Not Chowder
The Stockyard makes an excellent prime rib, not to mention a waffle bread pudding that shouldn’t be missed.
The Verdict
Even with a slight taste of flour, the flavor of this chowder is very good. The big issue is the lack of clams and potatoes. There just isn’t enough stuff in this chowder. It’s enjoyable, but not hearty enough to be a great chowder.
