There are people who go to Markey’s and there are people who go to Brown’s. In my family, they go to Brown’s. I had never stepped foot into Markey’s until now. But the chowder quest demands that we look everywhere for great chowder, even if that means betraying Brown’s!
Small – $5.95 Large – $8.95

Clams
Markey’s clam chowder has great clam flavor and plenty of clams. They are just chopped much smaller than most other chowders we have tried.
Cream and Consistency
The chowder is thick and creamy, but the clams and potatoes are cut very small.
Potatoes
Perfect potatoes. Excellent texture.
Garnish
Nothing exciting here, just the basic Westminster Oyster Crackers.
Everything Else
There is a good amount of pepper in this chowder balancing out the sweetness of the clams with a savory chowder.
Not Chowder
We tried the fried shrimp which were good, but what sets Markey’s apart from Brown’s is the bar. Don’t stop at the packie, grab a rum runner to wash down your chowder.
The Verdict
Having been longtime Brown’s customers, it’s hard to admit that the chowder at Markey’s is better, but it is. The flavor is excellent and while the chunks of clams and potatoes aren’t as big, they are done right. In fact, it is only the small dice that stopped this chowder from getting the fifth star. We liked it that much. Not only that, but at $5.95, this chowder is a hell of a deal.
