Kimball Farm has four locations in New England making it a favorite for ice cream on a hot summer night. The Westford location also has a Grill and Seafood Shack that serves clam chowder alongside all the usual favorites. It seems only right that the chowder quest should visit Westford and maybe play a little mini golf while we’re there too.

Clams
Good clams and good clam flavor. There are some big clams here and plenty of them.
Cream and Consistency
Kimball Farm chowder has a nice consistency, just the right amount of thickness. It’s also creamy without overcoming the flavor of the clams.
Potatoes
Perfect sized potatoes and plenty of them, maybe a little over cooked.
Garnish
Just the basic Westminster crackers.
Everything Else
Hot. Not spicy, just hot. This chowder was practically boiling when it arrived. It took more than five minutes before we could risk taking a bite and even then it was still really, really hot.
Not Chowder
There’s plenty to pick from at Kimball’s seafood shack, but none of that matters as much as some ice cream.
The Verdict
This was a really great chowder. It is a shame they have their warmers cranked up to boil. It was hard to enjoy because of it. Once it cooled off though, it turned out to be a winner. There’s plenty of clams, potatoes, and cream in this one and it all comes together nicely, and really good ice cream for dessert is a nice touch even if it doesn’t count in the rankings. There are also locations in Lancaster and Jaffrey, NH serving chowder. Carlisle only serves ice cream.
