Roast Beef: Nick’s Place – Burlington, MA

More Roast Beef

Clearly the trend in roast beef is to make it too big to eat. I don’t know. Maybe people want these messy monstrosities, but they are a little too much for me. Nick’s Place in Burlington doesn’t make them as big as Tessi’s, but they’re still huge. Despite the name, and to make sure to cause confusion, this Nick’s Place is not the same as the ten connected Nick’s Places that dot the north shore.

The regular beef is served on a toasted sesame seed bun with very thin sliced beef, mayo on top and cheese on the bottom. The beef is seasoned and there is salt and pepper littering the plate. The sandwich is heavily sauced, but not drenched. A regular beef costs $10.15.

The Verdict: โœง
Even though this beef is too big, it’s well seasoned and the flavor is balanced. There is a perfect amount of mayo and the cheese on the bottom is slightly melted. The bun was a little too toasted, but the real reason this beef didn’t earn two stars is the slicing. The beef is so thinly sliced that it loses texture. It is just a soft lump of beef. That’s a shame, because this one is close to being special.
