Maine’s Sweetgrass Farm Winery and Distillery makes gin no. 033, Black River Gin. Intervale Gin, released in August 2025, is their first barrel rested gin. It is aged in American oak barrels that had once held their winery’s Chardonnay. The result is a nice sipping gin with a delicious nose. Intervale is powerful at 100 proof with a strong finish, but there are also notes of vanilla and spice, making it ideal for a cool fall evening.

Michael was in Maine and got me a bottle at their tasting room in Portland. We opened it on October 9, 2025 for dessert after a lovely meal of sausage and cabbage. The bottles only come in 375ml so mine won’t last long, and this is a limited edition so the ability to get a bottle won’t last long either. If you are interested, move fast.
