Maine Beaches Region

When we go up to Maine we often stop at a few places and get a small bite at each one. If you are heading to the Beaches Region, the part of Maine along the coast between New Hampshire and Portland, you might want to stop at a few of these favorites. Before you try these make sure you check out our all time favorite Maine stop, The Clam Shack in Kennebunk.

Billy’s Chowder House

Billy’s Chowder House is located in Wells and makes several lists for best chowder in Maine. I of course have specific thoughts about that which you can read here, but my advice: skip the chowder and get the fish sandwich. It’s an excellent one and their french fries and tartar sauce are damn good too. Of course you need a drink to go with that, and Billy’s Rum Punch is the way to go. Have it in a glass or a bucket. I stuck with the glass.

Batson River Brewing & Distilling

Batson River has four locations, Wells, Biddeford, Portland, and Kennebunk. The Kennebunk location is the original and has lovely outdoor seating for people watching. In addition to craft beers and cocktails, they serve some great food including a massive soft pretzel served with beer cheese and mustard which is great to snack on while enjoying their Riparian Gin with tonic.

Alisson’s Restaurant

Alisson’s Restaurant has been serving Kennebunkport for more than fifty years. It’s a lively place, especially if you can snag a seat downstairs around the bar. The menu is extensive, but it’s hard to beat an order of their potato skins served with peppers and onions and a side of mild salsa.
