Brown's Lobster Pound at Hampton Beach offers clam chowder with big clams and creamy consistency. But the overcooked potatoes and mild flavor are drawbacks. Visit for the lobster, or try the steamers with clarified butter and get a side of chowder.
The Colonial Inn – โงโงโงโง
The Colonial Inn is over 300 years old so they are expected to know how to make classic recipes like clam chowder. the only problem is they source their chowder. It's a little disappointing because somehow it's still one of the best we have had.
Cape Pier Chowder House – โงโงโง
We received a recommendation for Cape Pier Chowder House on Bickford Island in Porpoise Harbor. The chowder has great flavor but too many potatoes and not enough clams. Even still, it's worth a visit for both the chowder and the picturesque views from Bickford Island.
The Clam Shack – โงโงโง
The Clam Shack in Kennebunk, Maine is a popular spot known for its lobster rolls and fried seafood. Their chowder features plenty of fresh clams but the flavor is more cream than clam. While good, it doesn't overshadow their perfect lobster roll.
The Bancroft – โงโง
The Bancroft is a great restaurant but the chowder disappoints with lack of clams and potatoes, and overpowering onion/celery flavor. Despite good consistency and delicious oyster crackers, it isn't a chowder we would go back for. Stick with the burger or shrimp cocktail.
