North Shore Roast Beef

It’s 2025 and we need a food project. On New Year’s Eve, I found a list of the ten best North Shore Roast Beef Sandwiches, so here we go. It is expected that all true roast beef spots will have junior, large, and super (or something along those lines). It’s also expected that we can order a “three way” with no explanation. So it’s simple we order “large beef three way” and see what we get.

For those new to the North Shore Roast Beef, it is perhaps the most famous sandwich in New England. While primarily found north of Boston, these days there are roast beef shops across the state and around the region. The traditional way to order one is “three way” which means with cheese, barbecue sauce, and mayo. And while we will be ordering them that way, I actually prefer horseradish to mayo.

Our rating system will be based on three stars.
✧ – Good, but not worth another visit
✧✧ – Great, ready to go back
✧✧✧ – Outstanding, everyone has to try it

If it isn’t good we will say so with the dreaded “Not Recommended.” And let’s get that out of the way now. Even though it is the most famous roast beef on the North Shore, we won’t be going to Kelly’s. We have been many times – Not Recommended.

Instead we are going to begin our search by following the list that Michael Petrigno shared, but of course we already know some of our favorites and will be hitting those spots as well. In fact, So come along and lets try to find the best roast beef the North Shore, and beyond, has to offer.
