gin no. 079 – Fox & Seeker London Dry Gin

In April of 2023, we took another trip to Texas. It was a jammed packed trip, and I didn’t have time to get to a proper distillery. On April 20, we had just left NASA, and Niki and I left Thomas and our wives in the car to figure out where we should go for dinner, while we went into Total Wine. (We ended up going to the Original Ninfa’s – absolutely awesome.) I really didn’t know what to get, so I blindly chose the Fox & Seeker London Dry. It is made in Houston, and I was hoping for something very local. It fit the bill. Niki also bought me a bottle of Prickly Pear Spirit.

Fox & Seeker produces two gins, the London Dry and Meridian Gin. The base for the London Dry Gin is the same as the base they use for their vodka. For that they blend Texas-grown Yellow Dent Corn with Soft Red Winter Wheat. They then distill it for a third time with juniper, coriander and other botanicals.

I bought this bottle on April 20, 2023 in Friendswood, TX, but didn’t open it until May 19 at home. It has been entered into the collection as gin no. 079. The price at Total Wine was $25.99 but their website lists it for $31.99.

We tried Fox & Seeker both neat and in a gin and tonic. We were underwhelmed by it. While there was nothing offensive, there was also nothing that excited us. It didn’t help that the last gin we opened, no. 078, was phenomenal. I read a review that suggested it was good in a Negroni, so I decided to give it another try in a Last Word. I think it’s better suited for these types of cocktails, but I’m a gin and tonic guy. Long story short, there is nothing bad about this gin, but nothing to seek out.
