- Burnt Church Distillery is a beautiful space newly built to look like the nave of a church with a gorgeous stained glass window.
- They make two gins, whiskey, and some fun flavored moonshine.
- Guys make sure you take a trip to the bathroom to use their famous Pee Wall which has 4.9 a rating on Google.
One of our favorite places to visit when we go to Hilton Head has been Hilton Head Distillery. Sadly, they lost us as regulars in 2023 when they decided to change their policy and not allow children under 16. But their loss is our gain as we decided to try a new distillery. On our way off the island we drove through Bluffton, SC. There we stopped at Burnt Church Distillery.
Built on the design of the namesake local church that was lost to fire, the distillery is huge with high open ceilings and an enormous wall of spirits under a stained glass window. They offer tasting flights and cocktails, but they also have food from the restaurant next door, Pizza Co.

I ordered a flight of four 1/2 oz pours that included two different gins, Original Devil’s Elbow, and Devil’s Elbow Cucumber and Black Pepper. They were both good and I bought a bottle of the original adding it to the collection as gin no. 080. I also had two moonshines, Chocolate Milk and Sweet Potato Pie. If only I had more room in my suitcase I would have bought them both, but settled for just the chocolate milk. My wife got the whiskey flight with larger pours and three different whiskeys plus a very good bourbon cream.

To eat we got bbq chicken nachos, pimento cheese spread, and tater tots. The nachos were particularly good, and while I wouldn’t head there just for the food it is plenty good to go with a little bit of spirit tasting.
I finished my visit with a gin and tonic using the Devil’s Elbow original and then did a little shopping in their gift shop. I got a new coaster and a “I Hit the Wall” t-shirt for my son. They have a little joke going on there about the special urinal in the men’s room. If you can’t make a pee joke at a distillery, where are you going to make one?

So we weren’t welcomed at Hilton Head Distillery, but we found a great replacement in Burnt Church Distillery. It looks like it will be a regular stop on our visit to Hilton Head from now on.
Below are photos from our visit to Burch Church in July of 2025. I had a cocktail and some soft pretzels with mustard. I tried the Gin Daisy: Devil’s Elbow Cucumber Black Pepper Gin, Lemon juice, Cointreau, elderflower syrup, tonic, garnished with dehydrated lemon and rosemary.
