Weekly Roundup: Week 37 – 2023

<– Week 36 HOME Week 38 –>

Sunday 9.10
For lunch today we got Ken’s. I had half a chicken kabob wrap, half a plymouth rock, and whatever chicken fingers and fries my son didn’t finish. Dinner was curried celeriac soup. I made it yesterday, improving on last year’s recipe. Instead of squash, I used carrot. Instead of onion, I used leek. And I used a lot more curry powder. It was good and I ate it with some toasted Italian bread. For dessert we all shared a chocolate chip cookie from Ken’s.

Monday 9.11
I’m running on fumes today. For lunch, I took some leftover cheese, cornichons, some pretzels, and a beef stick that I took to Canada and never ate. I snacked on some chips while I made dinner. I need to cut back on that.

Dinner was amazing. I seared pork chops. Then I sauteed some onion and garlic in butter with the fond. To that I added carrots, apple, and cabbage. I braised it all in a little apple cider. It was so good. For dessert I had one Hershey’s kiss.

Tuesday 9.12
My lunch today looked a lot like my lunch yesterday. I had some cheese – Le Secret de Compostelle, some pretzels, and today some chicken salad. I had to work late and got pizza for the office. I had two slices of DeNo’s sicilian pepperoni, it was ok but not my favorite topping.

Wednesday 9.13
I worked from home today and for lunch I finished off the chicken salad I had for lunch yesterday. With it I also had a few more pringles than I should of, but they were spicy so how can you blame me?

For dinner we went to Chang An. It is going to close next month so this might have been our last visit. It’s sad. The decorations are for sale but I’m holding out to buy a tiki mug. Tonight we had the General Gau’s Chicken and the Beef Teriyaki. It was delicious. It’s going to be sad to see them go.

When we got home I had half of an oatmeal raisin cookie from Sally Ann’s. It was amazing and reminded me I don’t go there enough.

Thursday 9.14
I went back to DeNo’s for lunch and had the chicken kabob sub, good as always, and some chips. For dinner I stuffed an acorn squash with ground beef, onion, pepper, tomato, and some leftover rice from last night. I topped it with parmesan bread crumbs seasoned with parsley.

Friday 9.15
I had a bowl of Raisin Bran this morning before heading to work and then had some pretzels for lunch so by the time Kelly got home from work, I was starving. Kelly made reservations at Adelita. We had chips and salsa, shrimp tacos, street corn, and ham and cheese empanadas. It was our first time having the empanadas and they were really good. For dessert I finally got to try their tres leches. It was good but I like it extra soggy and except for a few last bites, it wasn’t. Still a good dinner.

Saturday 9.16
Michael took me out for my birthday. We decided on a food and drink crawl which was awesome. As people know, I like to eat and move. We started out at Neptune Oyster. It is regularly on just about every best of Boston list, but we were not impressed. We got a lobster roll, fries, crab claws, and shrimp. Literally nothing impressed me.

Next we stopped for a drink at Better Sorts Social Club and then another drink at The Street Bar. I really liked The Street Bar. I had a Singapore Sling that was excellent and also enjoyed their bar snacks, nuts and salt & vinegar chips. After that we walked over to Hecate and got our name on the waitlist.

From there we went to Deuxave which is always a favorite. We had the Duet of Prime Beef, which is a dish of both beef tartare and carpaccio. With a nice glass of Cabernet, it was heavenly. It was the best stop of the night.

The next stop was Faccia a Faccia. I was excited about it because I really like the two chefs who run it. Sadly, I wasn’t impressed. We had a Hamachi Crudo that wasn’t good and a Fazoletti Verde that was also disappointing. On the other hand the Iberico Sausage with nectarines was outstanding. We also enjoyed our waitress who had a great knowledge of gin and whiskey. I tried a new gin there.

There was no more food after that, but we did get into Hecate, after a 2-3 hour wait, where I tried another new gin. And then we headed to The Tam to wrap up the night. Oh and I ate some pringles before I went out.

Top Three
I thought the pork chop was going to top the list, but the carpaccio and tartare gave it a run for its money. I also thought about adding the sausage, but what might be my last meal at Chang An won out by a little bit. Here are the three best things I ate:
3. General Gau’s Chicken (Thursday)
2. Duet of Prim Beef (Saturday)
1. Pork Chop and Cabbage (Tuesday)
