It’s been a few years since I ate at Gibbet Hill. At one point this was a regular spot for us, but these days we more often go to their sister restaurant, The Bancroft. Still, Gibbet Hill is a special place and it was good to back last weekend.
The pastoral setting of Gibbet Hill is one of it’s draws. During the summer, cows graze in the rolling green pasture just behind the restaurant. The wood burning fireplace warms the dining room in winter.

Steaks are a major part of the menu, but Gibbet Hill is not a steak house. Other dishes worth trying include, the potpie, the short ribs, and the haddock in bacon-corn chowder. The wine list good, but affordable, and the cocktail program is creative and modern.
On my last visit, I started with Cindy’s Crab Dip, a hot, cheesy treat served with carrots and toasted baguette. For my entree I went with Rohan Duck Breast which is served with farro risotto, balsamic-glazed cippolini onions, pear compote. The onions were particularly exceptional. I should note that I also had a slice of cornbread from the complimentary bread basket. I remember the cornbread fondly from all my earlier visits, and it was even better than I remembered.
Below is a photo essay, with captions, of what I have eaten at Gibbet Hill.
