FIG – Charleston, SC

  • FIG, which stands for “Food Is Good.” is the most notable restaurant in a city now known for food.
  • While entrees are impressive, build a meal out of starters to maximize exposure to their frequently updated menu.
  • Impressive selections include the tomato tarte tatin and the ricotta gnocchi.

Opened in 2003, FIG has defined the Charleston dining scene for over two decades and helped define the city as a culinary destination. The dining room is elegant but understated and the food is rustic but refined. In 2018, they received a James Beard Award for Best Wine Program to go along with the two they won for Best Chef Southeast.

FIG is renowned for their treatment of seafood, but equally impressive are their small courses. Plates like housemade cottage cheese, ricotta gnocchi, and tomato tarte tatin are elevated beyond their humble origins.

Despite its longevity, FIG still draws a crowd. Reservations, which become available four weeks in advance, fill up quickly. But for food-loving visitors to Charleston, a meal at FIG is a experience that should not be missed.

Note: While FIG doesn’t have a kids’ menu, they are welcoming to children and offered a children’s wagyu steak and mashed potatoes for only ten dollars.
