Bib Gourmand

It would be easy to walk past Taqueria Habanero. The facade looks like any other on the street. The dining room is ordinary too. But the food, oh the food. Advertised as 99% Mexican, Taqueria Habanero is authentically delicious. Start with Memelas, thick corn tortillas topped with black beans, salsa, white onions and queso fresco.

They serve fourteen different tacos. Some are expected like carnitas or al pastor, but others are for more adventurous eaters. Fillings include cactus, mushroom, goat, or even grasshopper. Wash it down with a tequila-based cocktail or stay sober with agua fresca of the day. For dessert, tres leches topped with pineapple does not disappoint.

All of this delicious food is a bargain. Memelas are just $6 for two. Tacos, except for grasshopper, are $5 or less. And of course, the first basket of chips and salsa are free. Lunch for two was less than $55 before tip.
