We see this food truck all around town, but never really wanted a food truck lobster roll. However, when they rolled into Short Path Distillery’s Summer Sipper, it seemed like the right time to try their chowder. Can a food truck serve an outstanding chowder?

Clams
We were impressed by the clams in this chowder, they were big, tender, and plentiful. But instead of clam broth they use fish broth which lessens the clam flavor.
Cream and Consistency
The chowder is medium thick, but doesn’t taste creamy.
Potatoes
Like the clams, the potatoes were plentiful. They were consistently sized and cooked well.
Garnish
Westminster Bakers Co. oyster crackers, the go-to for New England Clam Chowder.
Everything Else
There was enough pepper in this chowder that it was visible. They also use salt pork in their recipe.
Not Chowder
The food truck is more famous for their lobster rolls than their chowder. We didn’t try one, but we did try their tater tots which weren’t that impressive.
The Verdict
Fish broth? Why? The clams are great. The potatoes are great. But the base of this chowder is sorely lacking, and it’s a self inflicted wound. Why in the world would you replace clam broth with fish broth in clam chowder? It doesn’t make one damn bit of sense. Do you know what else doesn’t make sense, that Cousins Maine Lobster has trucks in more than half the states in this country, but they don’t operate in Maine! That should be a clue. We’re going to avoid this truck in the future.

Clam broth please! But I approve of the Westminster crackers.
I’m not surprised you go for the Westminsters! A very traditional choice 🙂
It seems like there’s always a little packet of them floating around in my car to appease the kids!
