Monthly Roundup: September – 2025

<–Aug 2025 HOME Oct 2025 –>

September is always too busy, but here’s a brief account of the best things I ate and the one new gin I tried.

September 1
We spent the weekend in DC, but headed home today. Before we left we took a swim in the hotel pool and then got lunch at Lebanese Taverna. The wings were particularly good.

September 2
I ate well today. It started with a Lemon Donut from Anna’s. Then for lunch I went to Ma Magoo’s for a buffalo chicken sub. Finally, I went to Karma for dinner where I had gyoza and sushi.

September 4
The school year is underway and that means a lot more visits to DeNo’s. Today I got an old favorite, the chicken kabob sub.

September 5
80 Thoreau has a new chef, but the corn and tomato dinner remains. The highlight of this year’s menu was the flank steak with tomato adobo and heirloom grits. I also tried a new gin, Covalle a tomato-water gin from NY.

September 9
I stopped at Pu Pu’s to get the pork and green beans I like, but they were out of green beans! I ended up trying their General Tso’s Chicken. It was just ok. Hopefully, next time they will have the green beans.

September 10
Lamb chops over leek-celeriac root puree topped with balsamic tomatoes.

September 12
I made corn risotto topped with swordfish and tomato relish.

September 13
I had my in-laws over for dinner and made carnitas, tomatillo sauce, mexican rice, and corn salsa.

September 14
I celebrated my birthday today at BRONWYN for Oktoberfest. We got the Uber Okto-teller which was an insane amount of food. My wife also made a delicious banana cake for me.

September 19
This is the last week of summer and with fall coming I was in the mood for a Plymouth Rock from Ken’s.

September 20
We made a first visit to Thai Charoen Kitchen. It was excellent and I can’t wait to go back. On my must get again list is their Esaan Sausage and their Mango Sticky Rice.

September 21

We celebrated Sothera’s birthday at Karma tonight, which was great, but the real treat was Kelly’s rum cake. It might have been her best one yet.

September 24
Salad using my Verrill Farm CSA: lettuce, carrot, tomato, and yellow pepper. Also included, Arizona spiced chicken, fresh bacon, shredded Monterey Jack, and my homemade creamy cilantro-lime dressing.

September 26
This morning I finally had the chance to stop by the new Eva’s Little Kitchen location in West Concord. The space is lovely and it’s nice that there is more seating. More importantly I tried the shaksuka danish which was very good.

Dinner was less successful. We went to The Bancroft and ordered steaks. The first two came out way over cooked, so they refired them and then they came out very rare. They took good care of us and were very apologetic though. I do highly recommend their seasonal side, Creamed Butter + Sugar Corn with crisp pork belly, scallions, and smoked salt. It’s $18 but worth every penny.

September 27
We took a drive to see the Buttonball Tree, a big, old tree in Sutherland, MA. On the way, we stopped at Sa’MoreRay’s in Westminster for an awesome sandwich. After the tree, we had cider donuts and apple cider slushies at Mike’s Corn Maze. And we ended the day with a slice of pizza at Antonio’s in Amherst.

September 28
I made chicken with peppers and onions tonight. It turned out very spicy. I also made corn-tomato rice which turned out crunchy, but I saved it.

September 30
I had plenty of rice leftover from two nights ago so I mixed it with ground pork to make Mexican fried rice and then topped it with a sunny egg.
