2025 Gin

January

Junipero – California (1.31.25)

Junipero is a craft gin from San Francisco, CA, pot distilled at 98.6 proof. It is, as the name suggests, juniper forward. I had it in a gin and tonic at the bar at 80 Thoreau and enjoyed it. I do think I may have had it before this though. 244 on the Master List.

Hardshore North Oak – Maine (1.31.25)

I have a bottle of Hardshore Gin in the collection, no. 036, but this is the barrel aged version of that gin, rested in new American Oak for three to six months. I tried the Woods Hill Table Winter Nigroni which combines this along with torino vermouth, zucca, and campari. 245 on the Master List.

Hayman’s London Dry,
Hayman’s Royal Dock, &
Hayman’s Old Tom – England (1.31.25)

I believe I might have tried Hayman’s Old Tom before but not their London Dry or Royal Dock. The folks at Woods Hill Table were nice enough to let me sample each. The London Dry was very clean and made a nice G&T which I enjoyed after the tasting. The Royal Dock is a 114 proof Navy Strength which actually sips nicely. The Old Tom was sweet as expected, and I wouldn’t seek it out. 246, 247, & 248 on the Master List.

February

Ethereal Batch 16 – Massachusetts (2.4.25)

As I walked into The Bancroft, I spotted a red labeled bottle of Ethereal on the bar. I knew I hadn’t had it but wasn’t sure which batch it was. Lucky for me it was 16 which I had missed. I went back up to the bar to take a picture and then ordered it with tonic. It was bright and slightly floral. Very nice. 249 on the Master List.

Still GIN – Kentucky (2.7.25)

Still GIN is made by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog. I tried it at Row 34 in Burlington. I first had it in a Sea-Walk cocktail where it was mixed with pamplemousse, grapefruit, lemon, and peychauds. It was light refreshing and easy to drink. After that, I tried it in a G&T but found it a little too bland. It was hard to figure out where this gin is distilled, but it seems Kentucky. 250 on the Master List.

Commerce Gin – Arizona (2.19.25)

Part of our vacation in Arizona. Our dinner plans didn’t work out and so we decided to go to Los Taco Chefs in Mesa. That way we could stop at Arizona Distilling Co. afterwards. I had it in a martini and then bought a bottle to make it gin no. 106 in The Collection. This is the first Arizona gin I tried and the first to enter the collection. 251 on the Master List.

Sailor G’s Navy Strength &
#gin – Arizona (2.20.25)

Part of our vacation in Arizona. We had lunch at the O.H.S.O Brewery + Distillery. They provide free samples, so I tried Sailor G’s Navy Strength Gin and #gin. The Sailor G’s is was nice, so I had it in a G&T. The #gin was too mild. The Sailor G’s ramps up the alcohol to 114 proof and adds grapefruit and pink peppercorn. 252 and 253 on the Master List.

Future Gin – California (2.20.25)

Part of our vacation in Arizona. We had reservations at FnB, and they feature some excellent Arizona wine. I had hoped they would have local gin as well. Sadly, they did not, but the bartender was great and let me sample Future Gin from California. It has honeysuckle and grape leaf in the botanicals and was really enjoyable. 254 on the Master List.

Saint Anne’s Citrus Rose – Arizona (2.20.25)

Part of our vacation in Arizona. I didn’t expect to add this Chandler, AZ gin to the list, but near our gate at the airport, there was SanTan Brewery. They actually make three gins, but only had this one. I tried it in a G&T. Maybe it was the rosebuds, but I didn’t care for it. It had an off taste. 255 on the Master List.

March

Captain’s Orchard – Massachusetts (3.11.25)

Short Path Distillery partnered with Gordon’s Fine Wine to make this navy strength gin flavored with fall spices and apple. I bought a bottle at Gordon’s in Waltham and then opened it the next day. It is very good in a Martinez. This is gin no. 107 of The Collection and 256 on the Master List.

Omni Boston at the Seaport Proprietary Gin – Massachusetts (3.11.25)

Short Path Distillery partnered with Omni to make this proprietary gin based on their blueberry-flavored Acadia Gin. I first tried the Cadenza at the Crescendo Lobby Bar. It’s a delicious cocktail with Campari, pineapple, and maple. They also gave me a taste neat and I really liked it. After that I went to The Sporting Club to have Float Like a Butterfly with lemon, St. Germain, and honey. This is gin 257 on the Master List.

McClintock Forager Gin – Maryland (3.28.25)

We went to DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival and had dinner at Reveler’s Hour. I tried this Maryland gin in a Julia Child Martini, which includes lemon and is heavy on the vermouth. They use twenty-one botanicals inspired by native herbs found in the Appalachian Wilderness. This is gin 258 on the Master List.

Catoctin Creek Watershed Gin – Virginia (3.28.25)

I asked for a gin list at Reveler’s Hour, and this one wasn’t included but I had seen it on their online cocktail menu. I asked about it when taking a picture of the Forager Gin and they not only brought me the bottle to photograph but a taste of it neat. It’s made in Purcellville, VA and named for the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. It’s distilled from rye, but they keep the botanicals a secret. This is gin 259 on the Master List.

Las Californias Nativo – Mexico (3.29.25)

Gin de Las Californias is a Mexican gin, sourcing botanicals from both sides of the US-Mexico boarder. Unique botanicals include yerba santa, kelp, artemisis, and damiana. I had it at Oyamel in Washington, DC in a Baja Gin and Tonic: Las Californias Nativo Gin, Chinola Passionfruit, Dolin Blanc, thyme, Mexican oregano, and fevertree tonic. This is gin 260 on the Master List.

The Sassenach – Scottland (3.30.25)

The Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin is distilled using apples which gives it a delicate mouth feel. I tried it at Bresca in Washington, DC, both it in a cocktail and neat. Life Finds Away, which contains Calvados, Apple, Yuzu, and Egg, plays nicely with the apple in the gin. Overall it was very enjoyable. This is gin 261 on the Master List.

Tom Cat – Vermont (3.30.25)

I’ve certainly had Tom Cat before, but I never documented it. I have original Barr Hill in my collection and had a Tom Cat made just for the Vermont Hotel in 2023. At Bresca, the waiter gave me a blind tasting of this and Nikka Whiskey. I of course picked the gin. It is delicious, herbal, and complex. I should probably get a bottle. This is gin 262 on the Master List.

April

Mermaid Zest – England (4.4.25)

Sotheara and Chovry had us over for Cambodian hot pot and he had a bottle of Mermaid Zest in his cabinet. This English gin is made at the Isle of Wight Distillery. Citrus heavy with grapefruit and bergamot, it’s a bright summer gin. This is gin 263 on the Master List.

Malfy Originale – Italy (4.9.25)

It is amazing that I can still try a new gin at The Bancroft. I’ve probably had this one before, but I really don’t remember and it wasn’t on the list. Malfy is a traditional dry gin. It’s good but not super exciting. This is gin 264 on the Master List.

Mind Your Manners – Missouri (4.19.25)

Mind Your Manners Gin was made for Idol Wolf at the 21C Hotel in St. Louis. My mom got me a bottle when she came for her Easter visit. It’s strong on the rosemary, but I really loved it. This is gin no. 108 of The Collection and 265 on the Master List.

Wild Snow Dog Dry Gin – Portugal (4.24.25)

I met up with Michael on his birthday. He was having dinner at Baleia and I joined him right as her was finishing dessert. I bought him a drink, though of course I twisted his arm into trying this new gin with me. It’s made with wild juniper berries that thrive on the slopes of Estrela Mountain. Additionally the glassware at Baleia are excellent. This is gin 266 on the Master List.

May

Diplôme Dry Gin – France (5.1.25)

Diplôme Gin is a French gin made using a 1945 recipe that was made to appeal to US GI’s at the end of WWII. I got an email that they were doing a French spirits tasting at Lower Falls Wine and Spirits so I headed over to try it. It’s a London Dry, but light on the juniper. Not exciting enough to buy a bottle. This is gin 267 on the Master List.

Hendrick’s Oasium – Scottland (5.8.25)

Hendrick’s is making a lot of variations these days, their “Cabinet of Curiosities” series. They had this one at Karma and of course my wonderful friends there let me try it. I just had some neat. Supposedly it has herbs and citrus, but the herbs were much more prominent in my tasting. I ended up ordering a Mai Tai. This is gin 268 on the Master List.

Nora’s Irish Dry – Ireland (5.10.25)

Michael brought me a bottle of Nora’s Irish Dry from his trip to Ireland. The gin is created by Tigh Nora, a Galway bar named for Nora Barnacle, the original Galway girl and wife and inspiration of James Joyce. We tried it straight away and really enjoyed it. This is gin no. 109 of The Collection and 269 on the Master List.

Riparian – Maine (5.17.25)

I’ve had Riparian Gin before but never documented. I first had it at Batson River Brewing and Distilling in Kennebunk several years ago and including today have had it there a few other times. They use lavender grown on Batson River Farm in it, but it isn’t too floral. It makes a nice G&T which is how I had it today. This is gin 270 on the Master List.

Gunpowder Irish Gin – Ireland (5.18.25)

Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin is made at The Shed Distillery in County Leitrim. It’s another gin that I’ve had before but never documented. I didn’t remember thinking much of it the last time I had it, but today I enjoyed it in a G&T over at Michael’s. This is gin 271 on the Master List.

June

Pink Gin – Massachusetts (6.7.25)

Pink Gin is a Specialty Series gin from Short Path. They released just 75 bottles on June 7, 2025. I bought one for $45 making it gin no. 110 of The Collection. I also tried it both neat and in a couple of the specialty cocktails. This is gin 272 on the Master List.

Short Path Migration Batch 5 – Massachusetts (6.7.25)

I have the rest of the Migration Series in The Collection, but didn’t realize until recently that there was a fifth batch. There is only a little bit of this left at the Barrel Bar at Short Path. I tried it neat and when they asked me what I thought I said “kind of rough, tastes like 120 proof.” Well sure enough that’s what it was. This is gin 273 on the Master List.

Conniption Kinship – North Carolina (6.27.25)

I tried this purple gin at Local 11Ten in Savannah. It’s the first North Carolina gin I have tried. I had it in a gin and tonic and even though they add a lot of botanicals, the juniper is at the front. I really enjoyed it. Like most purple gin, it gets it color from butterfly pea flower. This is gin 274 on the Master List.

July

Spanish Moss Gin – South Carolina (7.1.25)

On our trip to Hilton Head, we took a ride over to Beaufort to visit Rotten Little Bastard Distillery. There we did a full tasting which included Spanish Moss Gin, served neat. Since the distiller Brian didn’t like gin, he had his niece who was a pastry chef come up with this cardamom forward gin recipe. It’s distilled 27 times, and though it was good, I didn’t buy it because of the $40+ price tag. This is gin 275 on the Master List.

(229) Extra Dry American – Georgia (7.6.25)

I bought this gin on July 3 at The Salt Table, a spirits store in the Savannah Airport that focuses on Georgia and South Carolina liquor. This gin is made in Arlington, GA with juniper, coriander, angelica, licorice, grains of paradise, lemon peel, Orris root and cardamom. I got it as a gift for Michael and we opened and tried it on July 6. It was slightly sweet and good but pretty straight forward, but a good value at $25. This is gin 276 on the Master List.

Kappy’s Summah – Massachusetts (7.12.25)

I can’t say not to Short Path Gin. This most recent edition was a partnership with Kappy’s. It’s got flavors of watermelon and mango. I drove out to Fitchburg, where I got the last bottle and opened it the same night. This is gin no. 112 in the collection and 277 on the Master List.

Porter’s Tropical Old Tom – England (7.12.25)

I went to a special dinner at 80 Thoreau and saw a new cocktail, Bell Hop, with this gin in it. I tried it both in that cocktail and neat. I’ve had two other Porter’s gins there. I particularly liked this one neat. This gin is 278 on the Master List.

Portage Gin – Maine (7.19.25)

We went to Portland for the weekend and our first stop was Three of Strong Spirits. They are mostly a rum distillery but they do make a little gin. Portage Gin is made from their sugarcane spirit. I tried it neat. It is 90 proof, a strong gin with a bite. This gin is 279 on the Master List.

Oaked Portage Gin – Maine (7.19.25)

Along with my tasting of Portage Gin, I also tried the barrel aged version. This is the third edition of “Working Title Collection”. Although it is 95 proof, it is aged in used rum barrels and softer than the original Portage. I liked it better. This gin is 280 on the Master List.

Goldie’s – Maine (7.19.25)

We stopped at Blythe and Burrow to have a night cap and the bartender offered me this local gin. I tried it neat and it was excellent, impossible to believe it was 92 proof. They sell it for less than $25 a bottle. I liked it a lot and will probably get a bottle at some point. This gin is 281 on the Master List.

Wiggly Bridge Gin – Maine (7.21.25)

The Wiggle Bridge Distillery is on Rt 1 in York, ME. I stopped in on my way back home from Portland and tried their gin in a G&T. It was floral with the angelica and orris root coming through. They say this is a gin for non-gin drinkers, so it isn’t for me. I passed on getting a bottle. This gin is 282 on the Master List.

Forager’s Gin,
Newport Gin, &
Rhodium Gin – Rhode Island (7.27.25)

I drove down to Rhode Island just to visit Rhodium. I didn’t have a Rhode Island Gin and I wanted one. I tried the Foarger’s Gin, the Newport Gin (made for the Newport Restaurant Group), and the original Rhodium Gin in a three flight tasting. I liked the forager’s best and bought a bottle, no. 113 of The Collection. These are gins 283, 284, and 285 on the Master List.

Painted Lady Gin,
Bar Pilot Gin, &
Painted Lady Barrel Aged – Oregon (7.31.25)

Cannon Beach Oregon and Haystack Rock is a natural wonder and what better way to finish off some time enjoying the ocean than trying three new gins at the Pilot House tasting room. I tried all three neat. The Painted Lady was floral. The Bar Pilot had cardamom which was enjoyable. And the Aged Painted Lady which rested in wine barrels was good. Later that night I tied the Painted Lady in an Aviation and it was excellent. These are gins 286, 287, and 288 on the Master List.

September

Covalle Tomato Water Gin – New York (9.5.25)

We went to the corn and tomato tasting at 80 Thoreau, our first dinner there since they hired a new chef. They know I’m a gin enthusiast and offered me this new gin. It is made with tomato water and really exciting. I tried it neet and in a martini. I need to get a bottle. This gin is 308 on the Master List.

October

Ferdinand’s Saar Dry Gin – Germany (10.4.25)

This is one of the most floral gins I’ve ever tried. One of the botanicals is rose hip and to my tase they way over did it. I had it in a gin and tonic at The Longfellow Bar in Cambridge. It’s a great place to try new gins, but I don’t want this one again. This gin is 309 on the Master List.

Intervale Gin – Maine (10.9.25)

Michael got me this gin while he was in Portland, ME. It is made by Sweetgrass Distillery who also makes gin no. 035 Back River Gin. It’s a great sipping gin, no. 116 of the collection and 310 on the Master List.

135° East Hyogo Dry Gin – Japan (10.12.25)

On a visit to Houston I had brunch at State of Grace with Niki and Sreyleak. In between courses, I popped away from the table to check out the bar. There I found this gin and tried it neat. I enjoyed it, especially the hint of yuzu. But in a gin and tonic, it wasn’t bold enough. It might have been better in a martini. This is 311 on the Master List.

Coterie Garden Gin – Massachusetts (10.24.25)

I didn’t realize this gin existed until an unplanned visit to the Four Seasons. Short Path made this gin especially for them using, juniper, rose, jasmine, sunflower, elderflower, and rosemary. I tried it in a gin and tonic and found it delicious, but I always like Short Path gin. I’d get a bottle if I could, but that seems unlikely. This is 312 on the Master List.

Hendrick’s Orbium – Scotland (10.30.25)

I tried to drink this as a martini at Eddie V’s in Burlington, MA. Sadly they didn’t have enough left to make one so I got a half of a martini. It has quinine, wormwood, and lotus blossom which sounds great, but I thought it fell flat. I haven’t been very impressed with the special Hendrick’s gins so far. This is 313 on the Master List.

Muff Irish Potato Gin – Ireland (10.31.25)

Doug got me this gin for Halloween as a gag, “muff liquor,” but it turned out to be a solid gin. Botanicals include mandarin, juniper berries, citrus peel, elderflower, and rosemary. It’s also distilled to a very European 80 proof making it easy to drink. I would have added it to the collection but we drank it all within a week. This is 314 on the Master List.

November

Bimini Coconut – Maine (11.8.25)

I’ve had regular Bimini Gin in Portland before at Fore Street, but Sophorn brought this coconut version to Michael’s Harvest Party. I tried it neat and in a G&T with cucumber. It makes a decent G&T even if I don’t fully believe in a coconut gin. This is 315 on the Master List.

Condesa Clasica – Mexico (11.8.25)

I brought the rest of Muff Liquor to Michael’s Harvest Party but figured I’d bring an unopened bottle. I wanted to try something new so I got this Mexican Gin. They used botanicals local to Mexico City including Mexican sage. It was good, but not exciting enough to get a bottle of my own. This is 316 on the Master List.

Kyrö – Finland (11.21.25)

80 Thoreau suggested this gin because it won the best gin for a gin and tonic at the 2025 International Wine and Spirts Competition. It was good. I don’t think it was the best gin and tonic I ever had, but I’d get it again. I like the distiller’s description: Made with 100% rye and local wild botanicals including birch leaves and meadowsweet, Kyrö Gin embodies the fragrance and flavour of a fresh Finnish summer. This is 317 on the Master List.

Gin Tourbé – Canada (11.29.25)

This and the two gin’s below it were first tried at the Alice Bar at the Omni Mont Royal with my mom. Of the three, this was the winner, though very non-conventional. It is a peated gin so I had it in a gin Manhattan and really loved it. I would get a bottle of this one if I could find it. They didn’t have it at the SAQ. This is 318 on the Master List.

Rosemont Rose – Canada (11.29.25)

I tried this at the Alice Bar. The bartender gave me a sample and if he hadn’t given me a sample of the Romeo Watermelon right after, I would probably have more to say about how much I didn’t like this. I will avoid this one, but it’s way better than watermelon gin. This is 319 on the Master List.

Romeo’s Watermelon – Canada (11.29.25)

I like Romeo’s Gin. The night before I tried this one at the Alice Bar I had their original gin in a martini and it was great. Watermelon gin shouldn’t be a thing. I took a sip neat and left the other three-quarters of the sample to be thrown away. Vile business. This is 320 on the Master List.

December

Sylvius Dutch Dry Gin – The Netherlands (12.1.25)

Although I got this gin as a gift when I visited Niki and Sreyleak in Houston back in October, I didn’t open it until December. It has a strong anise taste which I like, but it makes for a very non-traditional gin. This is 321 on the Master List and gin no. 117 of The Collection.
