What I ate last week: January 30, 2026

I made it out of St. Louis just before the blizzard hit and went straight from the airport to Taqueria El Amigo in Waltham. I got the Plato Mexicano which comes with one chorizo quesadilla, one steak taco, one chicken enchilada and rice & fried beans. This is the smallest restaurant you can imagine and the chorizo quesadilla was especially good. Absolutely worth the hype.

I probably shouldn’t have, but I also go the tres leches. We tried to get it to go but they gave it to us on a plate so I ate it. Amazing.

Sunday Supper was a bit of a cheat this week. I didn’t cook. I got cheese from The Cheese Shop in Concord, including Delice des Deux-Sevres. I’m glad they were open despite the storm.

I went all out for dinner Monday night. I made a pork roulade for the first time. I stuffed it with salami, provolone, spinach, and onions and served it over my romesco sauce, this time with less garlic.

My wife and I had a mini date at Bandoleros. We started with the Tamalitos which she had had before but I hadn’t. They were nice and soft, stuffed with chicken, and served in this funny little cart. We would get them again.

Next we got Choripollo which is my favorite entree there.

And last we got tres leches because why not have it twice in one week.

I used up the rest of my ricotta to make a final batch of gnocchi and coated it with romesco. I served it along with the last of the pork roulade.

I may have found my new favorite maki roll at Karma. Meet Hipster Maki (no, I don’t care for the name either). Snowcrab, shrimp tempura, cucumber topped with spicy tuna, lemon slice, green onion, drizzled with ponzu.
