Weekly Roundup: Week 30 – 2023

<– Week 29 HOME Week 31 –>

Sunday 7.23
Today we went to the Statue of Liberty. When you are there, you don’t have a lot of food choices. Basically you are stuck with the Crown Cafe. It wasn’t very good, but you can’t beat the location. I shared a Southwest Chicken Panini with my wife. You look at that picture and call that a panini with a straight face! We also had some fries. They were decent.

For dinner we went to Keen’s Chophouse. We had been before and for some reason I didn’t get the Mutton Chop. I did this time and I am so glad. It is absolutely amazing. We also got creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, carrots, oysters Rockefeller, carrot cake, and key lime pie. We also had dinner rolls and veggies with blue cheese sauce (that was the only bite of the meal I didn’t like.)

Monday 7.25
Time to leave NYC. We checked out of the hotel and went to get a slice of pizza. I wanted to make sure that Thomas got a NY slice. I picked a place called Slice close to the hotel that had decent reviews, but it really wasn’t that good. Thomas liked his though and that’s what counts.

On the way back to the car, we passed a Le Pain Quotidien. I guess it is a Belgian chain of bakeries. Kelly and I decided to split a French Cream Donut because it looked so amazing. It really was very good. On the drive back, we stopped at McDonald’s and got some fries to share, and a coke.

I wasn’t going to have dinner, but I took a little nap when I got home and woke up hungry. I ran to the store, but the deli was already closed for the night so I got buffalo chicken salad and made a sandwich with some pretzels. That worked.

Tuesday 7.26
So my first day on the scale after New York and as I expected I needed to eat a little lighter today. I was at the Pastoral Center in Braintree for work today and they gave us lunch. The choices weren’t all that great. I would have liked just to get a little sandwich, but I ended up with some steak tips with peppers and onions and some white rice.

For dinner I remade the French Moussaka recipe I played with last year about this time. This time I did use lamb instead of beef. They didn’t have any ground lamb at the grocery store so I cubed up a shoulder chop. I also made a little side salad to use up the last of last week’s lettuce since I’m getting more farm share vegetables tomorrow.

Wednesday 7.26
My weight was back to reasonable today, but it’s Wednesday which means CSA day. I had planned to go to DeNo’s for lunch but when I walked over there they still didn’t have seats in and the line was out the door so I just turned around, walked back to my office, and skipped lunch. I ended up having some pretzels and a couple of pieces of cheese as a snack before dinner.

I went to get my farm share around 4:00. I got eggplant, summer squash, lettuce, scallion, spring onions, corn, basil, and parsley. I decided to make a lemon-summer squash risotto tonight. It turned out great. I also made some halibut and placed that on top. And of course if I’m making risotto, I’m drinking wine.

Thursday 7.27
I didn’t have time to eat at work today so I stopped at the Concord Cheese Shop on my way home. I got a baguette, some cheese, and some Thai Curry Chicken Salad. I made the chicken salad into a sandwich which was excellent and then I ate some more with pretzels. For dinner I made a pasta with corn and basil. That was good too. We also had some of the cheese, Red Witch, a Swiss alpine style, with dinner.

Friday 7.28
We had my niece and nephew over to spend the night. Before we picked them up we got some lunch from Ken’s, delicious. I split a chicken kabob wrap with Kelly and then finished what was left when my son was done with his chicken tenders and fries.

We took the kids to Mel’s Funway Park. There we had dessert before dinner. I ate the end of my son’s chocolate chip sundae with sprinkles and whipped cream. It was just ok. Better was my wife’s root beer float which she shared. For dinner we got pizza from Steve’s. They put a lot of toppings on it, but I’m not crazy about the crust. My chicken and ham pizza was better than the kids’ bacon and pineapple pizza (and not just because I’m not a pineapple on pizza guy). There weren’t a lot of options at 7:30 on a Friday night. Seriously what pizza place closes before 8 on a Friday!?!

Saturday 7.29
For breakfast this morning, I some leftover baguette with jam. For lunch, I finished off the cheese from the other day. For dinner, I made a chicken-corn-black bean-rice dish with some of my farm share and some extra jalapeños.

Top Three
So I am super late posting this one. I can’t even remember what I liked, but I know what number one was. Here are the three best things I ate:
3. French Cream Donut (Monday)
2. Thai Chicken Salad (Thursday)
1. Mutton Chop (Sunday)
