One Michelin Star
Down the street from the University of Toronto, it would be easy to walk by the ordinary exterior of Osteria Giulia without noticing it, but inside the beautiful, yet simple dining room is memorable. Chef Rob Rossi offers a large menu focused on the Liguria region of Italy. Most notable is the focaccia di recco, a dish with origins in the Twelfth Century. This traditional flatbread is created using stracchino cheese and thinly stretched unleavened dough. It is served fresh out of the oven in a copper pan dressed with olive oil and sea salt.
The pasta section of the menu offers, exceptional and unique dishes. The beautiful picagge, a Ligurian pasta similar to tagliatelle, is tossed with rabbit and leeks. Off the menu, the ricotta gnocchi special uses pickled pearl onions to accent a rich lamb neck ragu.
Osteria Giulia also serves up unique spirits from both Ontario and Italy. The Cicchetto Mandarino is small-batch, locally made orange liqueur. It’s intense flavor pairs beautifully with the flawless tiramisu. They also have a superior grappa list including, Barolo ‘Bussia’, Marolo, a rare single vineyard expression from Piedmont. Rare Italian gin includes Meneginks and the volcanically inspired Etneum.
The cost of dinner and drinks with tip was just under $300 USD.
