Sunday 10.1
Happy October. Today was the last day of service at Rosebud in Davis Square. There has been a lot of bad press about how they are closing, laying people off, and then reopening sometime in the future as the same restaurant but with Indian menu items too. The whole thing is horribly managed, but if I was ever going to eat at the real Rosebud, a restaurant that has been running for over 70 years, I had to go today. I had some of my son’s fries, a bite of my wife’s huevos rancheros, and the Daybreak Flatbread with bacon, eggs, potatoes, cheddar cheese, scallions, sour cream, and hollandaise sauce. It was really big but really good. I also had a nice passion fruit cocktail. It’s a shame they are closing.

Monday 10.2
My weight was finally not way up on a Monday, maybe it is because I on’y had one meal yesterday, even if it was a big one. Today I had some pretzels early on because I hadn’t eaten since brunch yesterday. Then I had a late lunch at DeNo’s. I got the steak tip sub which needed a little more steak but had good flavor.
For dinner, I made a pasta. I had some tomatoes from my CSA and I got some shrimp from Crosby’s. I fried up two strips of bacon and sautéed onions and garlic in the drippings, then added shrimp with white wine and lemon. I enriched the sauce with butter and olive oil. Then off the heat I added parsley, tomato, and parmesan. Very nice.

Tuesday 10.3
After a big dinner and some nice wine last night, I decided to eat lighter today and also got some exercise in. During the day I had some pretzels and some cashews. For dinner I made chicken thighs, first seared then roasted. I served that with some left over winter squash and also a mixture of onion, garlic, green beans, and summer squash that I sautéed. Very delicious and hopefully pretty light.

Wednesday 10.4
For lunch today, I just stopped by DeNo’s and got a slice of cheese pizza. It wasn’t even that good, and I really try not to go there twice in one week. For dinner though, we went to Karma. We started with the Beef Tataki which hadn’t wowed me in the past but was excellent tonight. They seemed to have changed the dish, at least they changed the presentation.
After that we had sushi: yellowtail and scallion maki, crazy maki, ebi nigiri and saba nigiri. Our favorite waitress hooked us up with some of the fire shallot sauce which I dipped the yellowtail in and it was insane, so good. I also nibbled on some of Thomas’s french fries and chicken wings, but I was still hungry so we finished with an order of duck bao. And of course it was all washed down with a mai tai.

Thursday 10.5
I am still hungry. I had some pretzels and cashews as a snack and then got two pizza rolls at Crosby’s on my way home from work. Last night after I got home from Karma, I made tomato soup and some poblano hot sauce. So for dinner tonight I just had tomato soup and grilled cheese. I did put a little hot sauce in for a couple of bites. My weight better be beautiful tomorrow.

Friday 10.6
For lunch today I had a chicken salad sandwich with some pretzels. For dinner we went to Bronwyn. They were having a special Octoberfest menu. We started with a pretzel and then shared the spaetzle with bratwurst and the schnitzel with warm potato salad. Dessert was apple strudel. It was an excellent meal.

Saturday 10.7
I was at a birthday party today and avoided the cake. I’m trying to reach my weight loss goal before the end of the year and I know with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up it’s only going to get harder. I did not avoid eating four slices of chicken-jalapeno pizza, but my lunch was pretty light. I had left over tomato soup with a little left over spätzle from last night’s dinner.

Top Three
Well my favorite meal of the week was definitely Bronwyn, but chosing between the schnitzel and the spätzle is harder. My tomato soup was very good, but so was my chicken with green beans and squash. And picking between the tataki at Karma and the breakfast flatbread at Rosebud’s final brunch is a real challenge. Here are the three best things I ate:
3. Tomato Soup (Thursday)
2. Daybreak Flatbread (Sunday)
1. Schnitzel (Friday)
