Weekly Roundup: Week 43 – 2023

<– Week 42 HOME Week 44 –>

Sunday 10.22
I started my day with chocolate chip banana bread and then had some pop corn and M&Ms at the movies. For dinner we had the curried root vegetable soup I made last night along with some home made naan that Kelly made. I garnished the soup with yogurt and cilantro. It was excellent.

Monday 10.23
I didn’t make it long into the week before stopping at DeNo’s. I got the roast beef sub which was excellent and some chips. I had plans to cook tonight, but by the time I got home and by the time Kelly got home, I was just too tired. So I popped an Imo’s pizza in the oven. Not as good as back home and still trying to work out the cooking times, but an enjoyable dinner. Too bad I didn’t have a Vess.

Tuesday 10.24
We almost had unexpected house guests for the night, but they turned out just to be staying for dinner. I made my shrimp pasta with feta, tomatoes, and spinach. It turned out excellent. For lunch, I tried a sausage and egg sub from DeNo’s. I had really wanted a breakfast sandwich, but didn’t have time before work. I’m not a fan of this sub, too much bread. I might have liked it with some vegetables or something. But I don’t think I’ll try again.

Wednesday 10.25
I already ate at DeNo’s twice this week so I avoided going three for three by eating at Brother’s. I got the meatball parm because I had just had a roast beef sub on Monday. I didn’t like the meatballs very much. I should stick to the roast beef there. For dinner I had leftover soup and a slice of banana bread.

Thursday 10.26
I need to get a little bit back on track, but it didn’t happen today. I had lunch with Gretchen. We went to Spiga in Needham. I had the Veal Milanese which was very good and so big that I didn’t eat the whole thing. I really wanted bread pudding, but skipped that. For dinner, I finally made the meal I was going to make on Monday, pork chops with bbq sauce and collards with bacon and onions.

Friday 10.27
I’m sad to say that tonight was my last dinner at Chang An. It is closing after thirty years so that the owners can retire. I don’t blame them, but I’m very sad to see it go. It was packed tonight, so many people wanting to say goodbye. We had the beef teriyaki, the dish that made us first realize how good it really was. Then we tried the Tai Chi Shrimp which is spicy shrimp and white wine-garlic shrimp over spinach together on one plate. We also had a half order of the Peking Duck which was absolutely amazing. So long Chang An. I wish everyone there a very happy future.

Saturday 10.28
After last night’s Chinese feast, I went a little light today. I had a sandwich with the left over veal from Thursday’s lunch and then for dinner we went to Ken’s. There I split a chicken kabob wrap with my wife and stole some of my son’s french fries. After diner I went over to Michael’s and ended up having some smoked beef cheek, but just a few bites so all in all it was a pretty light day. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of the beef cheeks.

Top Three
I tried a new restaurant and said good bye to an old favorite. For home cooked food it was a toss up between the soup and the pasta. The naan put the soup over the top. Here are the three best things I ate:
3. Veal Milanese (Thursday)
2. Curried Root Soup with Naan (Sunday)
1. Peking Duck (Friday)
