New London Style Pizza

New London is my go to restaurant for pizza and subs in Concord.
Their pizza is Greek style and very good, try it with chicken, ham, and jalapeno.
Get the grilled chicken sub with lettuce, tomato, mayo, cheese, and bacon.

My house is equidistant from two great sandwich/pizza shops. On the Concord side is New London Style Pizza and on the Bedford side is Ken’s NY Deli. I consider myself a lucky man, though I probably shouldn’t eat at either of them as much as I do. But try as I might, I find myself eating from one or the other a couple of times a week.

I’ve been going to New London for about twenty years. While Ken’s is where I go buffalo fingers, cheeseburger clubs, and tuna melts, New London is where I go for steak and cheese, chicken parms, and pizza.

The pizza is “New London style.” This needs a bit of explaining. There is not a New London style. Two brothers worked for a pizza maker in New London. There they learned to make Greek-style pan pizza. They moved to Massachusetts and opened two restaurants, one in Concord one in the next town over, Acton. Because they learned to make pizza in New London they both named their restaurants New London Style Pizza even though the pizza really is Greek. Whatever you call it, New London has great pizza. Their buffalo chicken pizza is excellent. I also like to get one topped with grilled chicken, ham, and jalapeno. Other times, we get salami, green pepper, and feta.

If you don’t want pizza, traditional subs like chicken parm or steak and cheese are very good. I also like the roast beef sub, but my favorite sandwich is a grilled chicken sub with lettuce, tomato, mayo, cheese, and bacon.

For sides, I often get a bag of chips, but if I want something more, the mozzarella sticks and onion rings are both really good. They recently updated their chicken nuggets and they are outstanding.

The only bad thing about New London is their inconsistency. Of course when you go as often as I do, it’s only natural to land on an off day. But they miss a little more often than they should. So why do I keep going, because their bad days are on par with lots of other people’s good days, and their good days are exceptional.
