One Michelin Star
Statholdergaarden is an elegant restaurant in a historic building in the heart of Oslo. The dining room is beautiful from the ornate stucco ceilings to the beautifully set tables. The building dates back to 1640 when it was build as a residence for the Master of the Mint, Peter Gruner. In 1680, it became the home of the Governor-General of Norway and his court. In 1914, it transitioned from a residence to a restaurant and became Statholdergaarden in the 1950’s.
The à la carte menu offered a selection of three appetizers, including whale for more adventurous diners. Main courses included char, duck, and veal. An excellent cheese plate and a tree adorned with petit fours.
They have several complementary courses, excellent bread service and delicious amuse bouche. The wine list is excellent and there is a beautiful 1977 Laubade Armangnac to enjoy with dessert.
The cost of dinner and drinks was approximately $450 for two people.
