About a week ago one of my coworkers let me know that a new restaurant had opened up down the street, Sharon Korean Kitchen. It is just a block down Centre St. from Banh Mi Oi, which is my go to restaurant when it’s my turn to pick what we are having for lunch. Today was my day to pick lunch and I decided we all needed to try the new place.
Sharon Korean Kitchen is a bright, modern space and although I didn’t dine-in today, I certainly will soon. The menu is full of kimchi and bibimbap, as well as some grilled meats and soups. I ordered the Kimchi Fried Rice, extra spicy. It was excellent. The rice is cooked with kimchi and thin slices of well-seasoned pork. The dish is topped with a sunny-side egg. The dish is simple and straight forward, but exceptional. It’s delicious as a main dish, but would also be an excellent as a side dish with the Spicy Fried Chicken or the Chicken Katsu.
My coworkers ordered Chicken Bibimbap, Veggie Bibimbap, and Grilled Chicken. Although they don’t eat Korean style food often, they all loved what they got. I think we will be eating there often.
The staff was friendly and kind. On the order I indicated that one dish should be ‘gluten free.” Unfortunately, that dish, the Bulgogi Bibimbap, couldn’t be made gluten free because of the soy sauce in the marinade. They could not have been nicer about it. They tried to call me to let me know, but I missed the call. When I arrived they helped me select a new dish and refunded me the difference in cost.
Sharon Korean Kitchen is outstanding. If you are near West Roxbury, give it a try. I’ll update this post as I try more of their dishes. Until then, you absolutely can’t go wrong with the Kimchi Fried Rice and from what I’m told, everything else is great too. We are lucky to have two great Asian restaurants so close to each other. I’m already looking forward to my next turn to get lunch!
Update – January 27, 2023 – I got spicy pork today. It’s spicy Korean pork bulgogi marinated in a gochujang based sauce. I was trying to eat something lighter, but the amount of pork they give you is very generous. I would have liked it spicer, but that’s my only complaint.
