Though ownership has changed as bakers have retired, Bello’s Bakery has been operating on Manchester Road in Des Peres, MO since 1972. Current owner-baker Beni Bello worked for the previous owner Bill Clayton. When Bill retired, Beni took over the business and everything has remained excellent.

With more than a quarter century of baking experience, Beni operates a traditional bakery offering, breads, cookies, cakes, donuts, and pastries. Breakfast pastries, especially danish are outstanding. The cheese danish is the best choice for those who want a classic danish. For a more adventurous treat try the gooey butter danish.

Butter horns, gooey butter cakes, and apple fritters are also good choices. Bello’s is open Monday through Saturday, so stock up early for your Sunday brunch. The shop is small, but service is friendly and helpful. If you are in St. Louis, Bello’s should not be missed.
