Sunday 6.25
We decided to take a ride into Boston today. Kelly asked to go to the North End, someplace we never go. By the time we got there and found parking it was 1:00 and I was starving. We were looking for a place to eat, but instead decided to go into Modern Pastry. We got a cannoli which Kelly and I shared and a peanut butter cookie for Thomas which Kelly and I stole bites of.
For lunch we ended up at Casarecce which we really enjoyed, fresh warm bread with olive oil and parmesan, meatballs, and spaghetti with clams. I sipped on Aperol Spritz and tasted one of Kelly’s lobster ravioli. After lunch we took a walk and eventually sat down at Tia’s for a drink. We got fries for Thomas and I ate more than I should have, but I can’t say no to fries.

Monday 6.26
I ended up eating a lot more than I intended to today. I started out slow with just some roast pork deli meat rolled up with cheese and the last of the Pringles. But then my son wanted some Chuckles, even though he will only eat the red one. So I ate the rest of those.
We had company for dinner and I opened the Invierno we got at Vermont Shepherd a few weeks ago. I made a little plate of that along with some salami and crackers. After that I made pork tenderloin, bacon-corn risotto, and a simple salad of mixed greens. For dessert I had a homemade cookie my friend brought over. Eating light tomorrow.

Tuesday 6.27
I was not surprised a bit when my weight was way up this morning. I decided to eat light. I had the rest of the Invierno with some mini pretzels and then made a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for dinner. Hopefully my weight will be better tomorrow.

Wednesday 6.28
I went to lunch at Il Massimo today. I was trying to eat light with vacation coming up so I got a salad with salmon on it, but I also ended up eating some of my friend’s tiramisu. My wife’s parents came over for dinner and I cooked chicken thighs with greens. The greens were a mix of swiss chard, kale, and bok choy. I cooked them with bacon and butter so they were amazing. Kelly made a strawberry-rhubarb sauce that we put over ice cream. It was our first CSA of the year and we tried to use up as much as we could before heading away.

Thursday 6.29
Vacation tomorrow! But that meant a lot to be done at work and I didn’t get a chance to eat. We had a late lunch/early dinner at Ken’s. I got the cheeseburger club and Kelly got the chicken kabob wrap. We ended up splitting half and half. We also ate a cookie from Wilson Farm we had in the cabinet that would have gone bad while we were away.

Friday 6.30
Vacation! Glad to be back in Hilton Head. We always stop at Hudson’s on our way in. We got beer boiled shrimp to start and then a crab cake sandwich and the gumbo and grits with fried eggs. Everything was good, but then I got dessert. I had the brandy bread pudding. It was so incredible. It was very rich and I shouldn’t have eaten the whole thing, but I don’t know how I’m ever going to be able to go to Hudson’s and not get it again.
For dinner we went to XO Sports and Spirits here at the resort. The food is decent but the service is slow. We got some garlic parmesan wings and fries because we weren’t that hungry after our big lunch.

Saturday 7.1
Day two of vacation. I made dinner reservations for Alfred’s, a German restaurant not far from our hotel. So we ate a light lunch of a chicken “gyro” and fries by the pool. Kelly and I split it. We also split almost everything at Alfred’s. We started with an appetizer special which was shrimp in a cheese sauce with bacon. It was very good. Then we split the German mixed plate which had bratwurst, sauerbraten, wienerschnitzel, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes. I also ordered a side of spetzel because I needed it. For dessert we each got our own. I had the hummingbird cake which I wouldn’t recommend. Kelly has the black forest which I tried and it was much better. I loved this meal and Alfred’s might become a regular stop for us at Hilton Head

Top Three
It’s really unfair to make me do a top three this week while on vacation and since it overlaps two weeks, I expect next week will be just as hard. I’m having a hard time even picking between my chicken and greens vs my pork with risotto. Here are the three best things I ate:
3. Chicken and Greens (Wednesday)
2. Brandy Bread Pudding (Friday)
1. German Mixed Plate (Saturday)
