<– Week 51 HOME Jan 2024 –>
Sunday 12.24
Christmas Eve. It has become our tradition to have dinner at my in-laws. Sometimes I bring things, today I just brought drinks. The meal included ham, sausage and meatballs, salad, cheese, and lots of desserts. I ate mostly ham and desserts, though I did make a small meatball and sausage sandwich. I also drank the drinks I brought.

Monday 12.25
Merry Christmas! This morning I was pretty full from everything I ate last night, but that didn’t stop me from making cinnamon rolls (from a can) for my son and eating two of them myself. Then Michael stopped by for a quick drink and we had some Challerhocker cheese and crackers.
My wife’s parents came over after that and we finished the rest of the cheese along with shrimp cocktail that I made and sidecar cocktails that I also made. For dinner, I roasted a beef tenderloin and served it with some incredible green beans and very good mashed potatoes. The secret to the green beans is that I cooked the onions in homemade beef broth. We drank a 2015 Duckhorn Howell Mountain Cabernet. For dessert, Kelly made her amazing peppermint ice cream pie. I think it is now our official Christmas dessert.

Tuesday 12.26
So over this past month and these past four days in particular, I have not been on my diet and I’m not going to make my weight goal for the year. That’s ok. I’ve lost a lot of weight and I’ll just get back at it. I’m not waiting until January 1 to start again, though I will cheat on New Year’s Eve. So today I just had a small fish sub, no chips, from New London.

Wednesday 12.27
Thomas had camp today so Kelly and I drove out to Littleton to get lunch at Ed’s Weenies. They make an excellent hot dog. For dinner, I made filet mignon with leftover mashed potatoes and green beans. I also made a side salad.

Thursday 12.28
Remember all of those tortillas I had, the ones that made me have tacos for a week. Well I still have some left, so I made tacos for breakfast with eggs, cheese, ham, onion, and tomato.
Thomas went to his cousins for a sleepover so Kelly and I went to dinner at Mooo. No that isn’t going to make up for the past month of eating, but I did better than I usually do at a steakhouse. We split a shrimp cocktail and fries and then the fried calamari. We shared a creme brûlée for dessert. Everything was good, but the bartender, though very friendly, seemed inexperienced.

Friday 12.29
Today we got ready for New Year’s with a trip to Formaggio Kitchen. I will show you everything we got in two days, but for lunch I got some salmon chowder that was loaded with salmon. It was almost salmon in sauce more than a soup, but I absolutely loved it. Kelly got some chili that was also very good. For dinner, we got takeout from Ken’s. I got half of a tuna melt and also finished off the end of Kelly’s chicken Kabob wrap.

Saturday 12.30
We took Thomas to see Migration today and I ate a lot of popcorn. When I was a kid they would butter it for you and you could get them to fill it halfway, butter it, fill it the rest of the way, then butter it again. Now I eat half my popcorn and there is no butter left. I don’t like that.
I finished the rest of the salmon chowder when we got home. Then I used the rest of Kelly’s chili to make chili dogs for dinner. I also got some jalapeno-lime Ruffles which are actually spicy. I hadn’t seen them for a while so I was excited to find a bag.

Sunday 12.31
So there aren’t exactly 52 weeks in a year. There is one extra day in 2023 (two in 2024). So week 52 includes New Year’s Eve. As you know, I went to Formaggio Kitchen on Friday to get meat and cheese for tonight.
For charcuterie we had Prosciutto san Daniele, duck pate with cherries, and pork rillettes. For cheese we had Chabichou du Poitou, Kamiku Curado Ahumado, Corsu Vecchiu, and Sternenberger Bergkäse. We also had crackers, mini toasts, apricot and fig jellies, cornichons, and grapes. We had some shrimp cocktail and whiskey sours. For dessert we ate the last of the peppermint ice cream pie.
Top Three
So here we are. 365 days of what I ate. I admittedly didn’t go into the details these last couple of months, but I still wrote about what I ate everyday for a year. I won’t be doing that again next year. I will settle for monthly recaps with less detail, but I’ll still give you the best things I ate each month. Here are the three best things I ate for the last time in 2023:
3. Salmon Chowder (Friday)
2. NYE Cheese Board (NYE)
1. Christmas Dinner (Christmas)
