The Druid is a small Irish pub in Inman Square. This Cambridge favorite is best known for its fish sandwich, which has been named best in town plenty of times. It was that fish sandwich that first drew me to The Druid a decade ago, but there is plenty more to the menu including Irish favorites like beef stew; sausage, beans & mash; and shepherd’s pie.
Yesterday, I went with an off menu special, the lamb burger. It was served medium rare on a soft bun with greens, tomato, and grilled onion, and topped with pesto. The lamb was juicy and flavorful. If you are a regular reader of mine, you know I can’t stand it when lamb tastes like beef. In this burger, you know the lamb is lamb. The special cost $15 and came with a generous side of Druid chips, french fries. The fries are best enjoyed drenched in malt vinegar, which is of course on the table.

I really like The Druid. It’s an authentic Irish pub and you know it. The historic wooden building has a warm, cozy feel. Snag a booth in the window and you get to see both the pub and passersby on Cambridge Street. Before yesterday, it had been a while since I visited The Druid, but I don’t think I will wait long before going back.
