Sunday 5.21
Verrill Farm is where we we get our farms share, but we used to go there all the time for breakfast. They once had breakfast sandwiches made to order on the weekend. When we stopped by today there were none of those, but there were scones and they make great scones. We had the cranberry-orange, a long time favorite, and the blueberry-lemon. They were delicious. I also had a little snack of pretzels in the afternoon.
For dinner, we were invited to our friends Georgina and Spencer’s. Georgina is from England and made us an incredible British roast dinner with an amazing chicken, Yorkshire pudding, carrots, potatoes, brussels sprouts, onion, bread sauce, and brown gravy. Before that we had cheese and prosciutto, goat cheese puffs, and truffled chicken mousse. For dessert, she made Eton mess, which I had never had let alone heard of. It’s a delicious combination of whipped cream, meringue and berries. It was an awesome meal.

Monday 5.22
I was exhausted today. I didn’t sleep well last night. I had some cereal and then for dinner we got New London. It is a hit or miss place and tonight was closer to a miss than a hit. I had a chicken parm, which was just ok, and some of my son’s fries and chicken nuggets. Chicken on chicken is a little unnecessary, but I didn’t want them to go to waste. No dessert. I ate too much last night.

Tuesday 5.23
It’s probably no surprise given everything I ate recently that my weight is not where I want it to be. I tried to eat a little better today. I just had a roast pork sandwich for lunch with a few chips. For dinner I roasted some chicken with onion, lemon, and thyme. I also made carrot rice and brussels sprouts. I might have slightly repeated Sunday night’s dinner.

Wednesday 5.24
I didn’t have time to eat until about 4:00 today so I ended up just eating one meal. I have seen La Taqueria many times, but never stopped in. I figured I would give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn’t have much seating, just some counter space. I got a grilled chicken taco and a carnitas tostada. The taco was nothing special, but the tostada was pretty good. Good enough that I would go back. I was still hungry though so I stopped at the grocery and got some strawberries.

Thursday 5.25
Once again, I couldn’t get anything to eat until late. I drove through Newton on my way home and stopped at Avenue Deli. Like yesterday’s lunch I had driven past it plenty of times, but never been there. I got the Thanksgiving Turkey sandwich, a Coke, and a bag of chips. The sandwich was good but it could have done without the lettuce and tomato. I would go back, they have a reuben I want to try.
For dinner, I made a pasta with chicken, ham, peas, and ricotta. It was a little bland. I’m not sure why. Still that didn’t stop me from having seconds and maybe thirds. I also had a sweet tooth and finished the last of my son’s mini Oreos.

Friday 5.26
Finally the long weekend. It has been a grueling two weeks and I’m glad to have a break. I was out of work early today and had leftovers of last night’s pasta. I ate it cold and actually enjoyed it more than I did last night. When my wife got off work we met at Karma. In addition to drinks, I had a Mai Tai, we got crab rangoon and basil chow foon. It was our first time trying basil chow foon and we both really liked it. The only thing I avoided was the broccolini because it’s just too bitter for me.
That should have been all we ate, but we decided we needed dessert. We picked Flour in Harvard Square which turned out to be a little tricky. See Harvard is graduating this weekend and parking was a nightmare. I did find a space eventually and got a slice of coconut cream pie. You might remember that I love their coconut cake. Kelly got that. Then we went for a walk, stopped, by the bookstore and decided we needed something else. Well really Thomas wanted more food, so we went to the Smoke Shop and got him fries. Kelly and I tried the meatballs which were good but not good enough to get them again soon, but a former student of mine was working and came over to be our waiter, which was a nice bonus.

Saturday 5.27
We decided to take a day trip to Vermont. We drove to Manchester to see Hildene, the home of Abraham Lincoln’s son. It is a beautiful 400 acre property with an incredible mansion and a working goat farm. We had a picnic lunch of cheese produced on the property with some summer sausage we picked up on the drive up. When we bought the summer sausage, we also got a really fun al pastor flavored meat stick. After Hildene, we drove to Putney to buy cheese from Vermont Shepard, the farm that makes verano. On the way back home we stopped in Brattleboro. We had dinner at Kipling’s Tavern. I had the Fatty Melt, a patty melt with bacon, and fries. When I got home, I had my wife’s leftover slice of coconut cake from Flour.
