Weekly Roundup: Week 12 – 2023

<– Week 11 HOME Week 13 –>

Sunday 3.19
I gave most of my left over corned beef to my mother-in-law, but I did save just enough for this morning’s breakfast. I chopped it up with green pepper and scallion, topped it with swiss cheese and a fried egg, and served it over griddled toast. For dinner, I was too tired to cook, so I just made a grilled turkey and cheese sandwich with some pop corner chips. For dinner I had a very good mint filled chocolate.

I also started watching Top Chef Season 20. I have a love hate relationship with Top Chef. The food is amazing, but I can do without Padma. She annoys me to no end. Padma aside, this looks like a good season with great chefs from around the world. If I had to be a judge for episode one, I’d probably die, too much raw shellfish for my allergies.

Monday 3.20
Just a regular work day. I had a roast beef sub with chips from DeNo’s for lunch. I also had a matcha flavored Japanese Kit Kat that my wife got from her work. I don’t know about that one. It wasn’t bad, but it did remind me of the smell of fish food. I got more of a seaweed vibe than a green tea one.

For dinner I made a steak salad with lettuce, carrot, scallion, red pepper, and shredded cheese. I dressed it with my sweet red wine vinaigrette. I had another chocolate for dessert. This one I think was cookie batter flavored. I don’t exactly remember, but it was amazing. Much better than the Kit Kat.

Tuesday 3.21
I was so busy at work that I didn’t have time to eat. I was starving by the time I left. I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and got a cup of Thai chicken soup with red curry. It was basically chicken and rice soup with some Thai spices. I was so hungry I ate it in my car. It might have been very good or I might have been starving. I also ate the last piece of turkey and a slice of cheese when I got home along with a few potato chips.

For dinner I had a plan to make a small corned beef roast (like half a pound) and then slice it for sandwiches. But when I got it from the fridge it didn’t look good so I tossed it and we went to Ken’s. I got a tuna melt and some chips and my son talked me into sharing a cookie. Hard to argue with that.

Wednesday 3.22
Friday is the last day for a weight loss competition I have been in since the new year. I’ve lost 15 pounds and am close to lead. So I just have to be good for a couple of days, and then of course I don’t want to go back to where I was. I’m pretty happy with my weight right now, but losing ten more pounds would be nice too. Slow and steady. That being said, knowing I was going out to dinner tonight, I made some chexmix to get me through the day. Dinner was at The Longfellow Bar in Harvard Square. I passed on the burger and got the steak tartare. It was delicious and hopefully didn’t blow my diet like the gin and tonics probably did.

Thursday 3.23
Last day before final weigh-in. I went to the grocery store and while I was there I got a cup a loaded potato soup, really good and a cheeseburger. I was trying to make that my only meal of the day, but I got hungry or rather got too hungry since hungry is a general state of being for me. I had a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch at 4:30 this afternoon. That’s it. I’m starving. I better win this competition.

Friday 3.24
Well today was the final weigh in for my weight loss competition. I lost about 15 pounds from New Year’s Day and you have seen everything I ate to do it. I did let loose a little but nothing like the last two Fridays. For lunch I went to Brother’s and got a fish sandwich and fries. Then we had an early dinner at the bar at Karma. We tried the spicy bomb with scallop and eel for the first time and it was really good. We also got snow mountain maki, ebi nigiri, and tuna taco. We finished the night with a piece of chocolate. I’m still hungry but not half as hungry as I was last night.

Saturday 3.18
One of my favorite sandwiches is the Phil’s Fabulous from the Concord Cheese Shop. I got one today for lunch. I think it is the first time I had it this year. I should never go so long with out that sandwich! Tonight I had an event for my son’s school. I had a pre-event meeting with friends who were also attending. We had a cheese plate and a beautiful bottle of ’84 Bordeaux. It was a good thing because the food at the event turned out to be pizza and sliders. I was going to skip eating there, but then broke down and had a couple of slices of pizza.

Top Three
The spicy bomb from Karma and the Phil’s Fabulous just missed the list. Here’s the top three
3. The piece of chocolate with the ball on top (Monday)
2. Corned beef breakfast (Sunday)
1. Steak Tartare (Wednesday)
